The return to physical events has made the volume of waste generated by the MICE industry skyrocket, further boosting audience demand for sustainability. Here are some small but impactful ideas on making events greener without breaking the budget.
To create a successful event that drives sustainability, planners should think about how the event responds to its purpose, and leave room for attendees to interact and explore the topic. Planners can further engage attendees by incorporating the sustainability message in interactive sessions, or look for more sustainable travel routes or methods to and from the event.
Even after the event, planners can extend the influence of their green initiatives by measuring carbon emissions and creating a baseline for use in future events. They may also promote their eco-credentials to keep suppliers and other decision-makers informed and in a ‘community’. Finally, it is always best to follow the ‘3Rs’ of ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’ when designing events.
