In almost four decades, the biennial Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition – otherwise known as Auto Shanghai – has developed into one of the world’s most prestigious and dynamic automotive industry events. Set to run from 18-27 April, the 20th edition is themed ‘Embracing the new era of automobile industry’ and will throw a spotlight on current trends such as low-carbon transformation and industrial chain optimisation.

Find out moreOne of the first specialty shops established in Shanghai after China’s reforms and opening in the 1980s, Hua Bao Lou grew to become one of the city’s largest destinations for crafts and antiques, with a diverse mid- to high-end stock that also included jewellery, paintings and calligraphy. Known for its unique retromodern style, the shop closed for renovation in 2020, with Pico appointed to provide prop production and installation and other services for phase one of the project. Reopened in December 2021, the renovated Hua Bao Lou interior recreates the eclectic traditional-modern charm of the original – very much in keeping with the Ming and Qing dynasty cues of the building’s exterior.

The 19th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai) was the first physical A-class motor show to be held as scheduled in 2021. Themed ‘Embracing Change’, it showcased products from 1,000 companies and attracted 810,000 visitors.
For Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus, the show would be especially auspicious, marking the global launch of its latest generation ES saloon as well as the first global showcase of the advanced new LF-Z Electrified Concept. With this in mind, Pico was appointed to both plan the launch event and provide design, build and professional operational services for the marque’s 1,620 sq. m. booth.
In June 2021, Pico helped Volvo create an unconventional product launch event at the Ansa International Convention Center in Shanghai. The new product was the latest XC60, and the event’s merging of artistic elegance and football fandom aimed at boosting its audience appeal.
